Executive Director of Emerge Oregon
ORGANIZATION
Emerge Oregon (“EO”) is a training program for Democratic women who want to run for public office. Our mission is to identify, educate and inspire Democratic women to pursue elective office at the local, state and national levels. EO is an affiliate of Emerge America, which originated in the San Francisco Bay Area eight years ago and currently has affiliates in eight other states.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a politically savvy professional to serve as a program oriented manager who reports to the Board of Directors of EO. The Executive Director will maintain and grow the organization’s infrastructure, implement the EO curriculum with the assistance of Emerge America, and represent EO to the larger community. The position will have flexible hours and work location and is expected to take 30 hours per week. The anticipated start date will be mid-January 2011.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Program
- Conduct outreach to qualified Democratic women who hope to run for office. This includes marketing, recruitment, and operational management of the application and selection process, working with the EO Board of Directors.
- Organize weekend training sessions for the EO program, including scheduling speakers, organizing curriculum materials and food and beverages for each session.
Financial Management
- Maintain financial management system and accounting records for the organization, working with the EO Treasurer.
- Coordinate with EO Fundraiser as needed.
Partnerships and Relationships
- Represent the organization and expand EO’s networks within diverse communities.
- Maintain communications with supporters, program members, donors, alumnae, policymakers and allied organizations.
- Maintain and expand relationships with elected officials, political activists, non-profit organizations, political communities, and the media.
- Work with the Emerge America and other Emerge affiliates across the country by participating in national “Convenings” and calls, and by sharing best practices and other technical assistance as needed.
- Serve as a resource to EO’s Board of Directors and Advisory Committee.
- Coordinate with EO’s Fundraiser to maintain the EO database of alumnae, donors, and other parties and manage the EO web site.
- Write, edit, and distribute EO’s newsletter
General Responsibilities:
- Travel as required;
- Possess valid driver’s license and vehicle;
- Attend in-person day, evening and/or weekend meetings, events, outreach, and trainings;
- Use computer with email, social media applications, word processing, donor database, and accounting software, and other applications as required.
- Multi-task and manage time efficiently and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Communicate well in writing and orally.
- Develop effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies.
- Speak comfortably in public as required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors in its sole discretion.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of women’s political leadership issues, politics, and campaigns;
- Passion for the issue of advancing women in politics;
- Demonstrated commitment to Democratic ideals;
- Self-starter;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Minimum of 3 years relevant professional work experience preferred;
- Non-profit management experience across the following areas preferred: program development, financial management, traditional and social media, and board development.
COMPENSATION:
- Commensurate with experience. Will be expected to sign a confidentiality agreement on hire.

Fundraising Consultant

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a politically savvy and well-connected professional to serve as a fundraising consultant to the Board of Directors of EO. The consultant will develop and implement a professional, realistic and sustainable fundraising plan to meet the budget set by the Board of Directors. Emerge expects the position to require 10-20 hours per week.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement sustainable fundraising plan to meet annual budget;
- Manage all aspects of donor solicitation and relationships.
- Coordinate with Board of Directors and Advisory Committee in fundraising efforts as needed.
- Pursue traditional and non-traditional fundraising strategies, including events, grants, email, social media, etc.
- Manage EO’s donor database.
- Coordinate with EO’s Executive Director and Emerge America as needed.
- Travel as required.

COMPENSATION: The position will be as an independent contractor for EO and will be paid hourly. Terms negotiable. Consultant will be expected to sign confidentiality agreement as part of consulting contract. Position open until filled.
